Melodrama is here at last! It has been nearly four years since the twenty year-old New Zealand pop sensation left the world with her successful debut, Pure Heroine. Today she treats fans with the release of her much anticipated, sophomore album that is quite self-explanatory and was definitely worth the long wait!

Evidently, both of Lorde’s records are slightly similar as they are both heavily produced, despite the fact that  Melodrama is more directed towards the harsh realities behind heartbreak and toxic relationships, instead of teenage angst. Nevertheless, she did not fail to deliver the same upbeat, playlist-worthy pop tunes similar to the ones from Pure Heroine. I am convinced that her single, “Green light” and  another song called “The Louvre” which happens to be my favourite song off the record will eventually become Summer anthems found in almost every playlist. Although, the record  does contains a few melancholic tunes as usual, it is still well-balanced. In fact, the singer also shows that she has grown from her past, as the songs contain more depth than and are rawer, demonstrating her inner-strength and transition into adulthood. Moreover, as Lorde was releasing new singles for the album she indicated that she worked with Bleachers’ Jack Anotnoff with the production earlier this year. Overall, the record is certainly well written and produced, which explains why it took long for it to be released!

The eleven-song track list consists of:

  1. Green light
  2. Sober
  3. Homemade Dynamite
  4. The Louvre
  5. Liability
  6. Hard Feelings/Loveless
  7. Sober II (Melodrama)
  8. Writer In The Dark
  9. Supercut
  10. Liability (Reprise)
  11. Perfect Places

That’s not all from Lorde though! Not only did she reveal tour dates for New Zealand and Australia, in adjacent to her festival sets and headliner slots, as well as a few North American stops for Winter/Spring 2018.
